Abstract

Annual inflation in the first quarter of 2014 rose slightly more than expected and was 2.51% by March (Graph A). The average of the four measures of core inflation behaved similarly, registering a rate of 2.69%. The larger increases in prices for food and regulated goods and services account for the growth in inflation. The different measures of price increase expectations at one and five years are around 3.0%. The forecasts point to more homogeneous annual increases in the food and regulated groups, as well as in tradables and non-tradables, with a trend toward the midpoint of the target range. If so, inflation would be around 3.0% by the end of the year.

En el primer trimestre de 2014 la inflación anual aumentó algo más de lo estimado y en marzo se situó en 2,51% (Gráfico A). Similar comportamiento lo mostró el promedio de las cuatro medidas de inflación básica, al registrar una tasa de 2,69%. Los mayores aumentos en los precios de los alimentos y en los bienes y servicios regulados explicaron el incremento de la inflación. Las diferentes medidas de expectativas de aumentos de precios a plazos entre uno y cinco años se encuentran alrededor de 3,0%. Los pronósticos sugieren que los grupos de alimentos y regulados, así como los transables y no transables tendrían aumentos anuales más homogéneos, con una tendencia hacia el punto medio del rango meta. De esta forma, al finalizar el año la inflación se situaría alrededor de 3,0%.
