Abstract

The new figures for the fourth quarter of 2016 suggest that economic growth would have been low, although somewhat higher than in the third quarter. Consequently, the technical staff reduced the growth forecast for 2016 from 2.0% to 1.8%, within a range between 1.6% and 2.0%. Partly as a result of the slowdown, it is estimated that the current account deficit would have been somewhat lower than forecast one quarter ago, posting between 4.3% and 4.7% of GDP, with 4.5% as the most likely figure.

Las nuevas cifras para el cuarto trimestre de 2016 indican que el crecimiento económico habría sido bajo, aunque algo mayor que el registrado en el tercero. Con esto, el equipo técnico redujo la estimación de crecimiento más probable del producto para todo 2016, desde 2% hasta 1,8%, con un rango que oscila entre 1,6% y 2%. En parte como resultado de la desaceleración, se estima que el déficit en la cuenta corriente habría sido algo menor que el proyectado un trimestre atrás, y se habría situado entre 4,3% y 4,7% del PIB, con 4,5% como cifra más probable.
